ForgottenDawn's News

Posted by ForgottenDawn - December 31st, 2014

Hello there, it's been a while.

I'm gonna cut things short and avoid all the new year crap and what-not yadda yadda... To me, 2014 has been an intense year full of work and tight schedules and 2015 will be even "worse", but here's the thing: I'm actually looking forward to it.

For two reasons.

First of all, I'm planning to design and create my own Forgotten Dawn website so that I can wrap up all related pages into a single nexus, and no longer rely on Newgrounds for sharing and blogging purposes. Because let's be honest, I barely even "use" the site if not for surfing on my related pages, see the frontpage for less than 2 seconds and quickly change tab.

I have been lucky enough to find some opportunities outside Newgrounds that have granted me a bit of independence and maturity from the place where everything has started, so all things considered, I'm grateful for the people I've met in these years and all we've been able to share ever since my very first submission here. In fact, my last newspost here will probably be about my personal website IF it's ever going to happen, anyways. It won't be a complete goodbye either way, I just won't be an active user in the future.

Secondly and foremost, there are a lot of projects I'm carrying on with my own pockets, time and sheer determination that I wish to finish and share one day. I've been receiving offers from newly born marketplaces distributing digital assets for game developers because of my audio that I still personally consider as a "prototype" for what's to come. These things are quite delicate and they're on their way to get slowly distributed around the web, so in due time, every due link will be added and fixed. I've been working very hard on game concepts (namely Fade) and soundtracks whose details I cannot share yet.

Forgotten Dawn as a project is more alive than ever and it's always evolving. That's exactly what 2015 means to me and the forthcoming years. Working hard for something I love doing that gives me the strength to carry on my imaginarium and creativity, and I dare saying with full confidence that this is only the beginning.

Thank you

Just a quick update on the visual restyling I've announced a couple of weeks ago: it's live.

All related Forgotten Dawn pages have been updated with the new banners and logo, and most of my videos now sport the new backgrounds for all non-Bandcamp releases and mixes.

Since the new videos are currently linked to the old ones in order to slowly transfer the former views and rebuild the stats from the ground up, the only thing I would ask you now is to share my Youtube as much as you can. Friends, relatives, acquaintances, anyone. I'm not even charging you money for it, but I need people that can share my videos 360° and spread the word around.

My goal so far has been to pave the ground for this project to start flourish on its own two feet, but it can't go much further without you, the audience, since YOU are also a fundamental part of Forgotten Dawn. You are the human aspect of the project. You are the part that makes this project come full circle. It's an inseparable binomial, one cannot exist without the other. You are the ones that can make this project lively and kicking.

I think it would be a shame if Forgotten Dawn never had a chance to reach the thousands of individuals roaming this planet and beyond. Not just because of the content itself, but I would have simply failed in my vision of "connecting" people's minds and hearts through something as simple as sound and words and all that can be art. I have so many ideas I wish to realize one day and one can only wonder. I've been working very hard to bring some quality material as a starting point for this idea to kick in, and above all, to make sure anyone can reach and enjoy it.

I consider these first two years of activity (will be two the next February) as a prologue of this journey everyone can join in. Let's make Forgotten Dawn even more alive. It's your home, you're always welcome to share your thoughts, ideas, comments. It's also part of the main philosophy behind the new logo: every tiny bit of information can contribute to a larger, fuller ensemble.

There's much ahead, but an adventure has to start somewhere, no matter how dangerous and ambitious it might be, it's an adventure after all.

Thank you for your support. Stay tuned,

//FD

Hello folks, I've got some news for you.

Coupled with the recent partnership with Freedom!, a Youtube network I applied to not too long ago, in these days I've been thinking of revamping the visual identity of Forgotten Dawn, not just the channel, but the entire network of related pages.

I believe it's important to give people a better idea of what this project's about, since I think the current imagery doesn't exactly fit the overall direction this channel as a whole has been taking. It's more than just an update, as I'm also planning to better organize the structure of my Youtube channel and pave the ground for multiple projects that will likely see the light at some point in the future.

Speaking of Youtube, in order to preserve intellectual rights pertaining to those people whose music I've shared through my "Inspiring Music" playlist, I will temporarily be taking the playlist down in order to avoid unwanted monetization (yes, it can happen) and therefore legally screw everything up. I think it's probably safer to create a side non-profit channel promoting such music when hopefully this project will welcome a wider audience, so my hopes are as good as yours right now.

Long story short, expect some changes in the graphics in these days and some general revamp on my own Youtube. Songs shared on Newgrounds and Soundcloud will remain untouched by the redesign.

Stay tuned and thanks for your support

Hello folks, it's been a good while, I hope you're doing fine.

I've addressed the topic of Youtube monetization a while back, how evil and nefarious it is- not really. I also said I couldn't theoretically become a direct Youtube partner since my native country does not partake in the partnership program.

However.

I just recently got an offer from a network that would allow me to profit on the videos of my choice. That would technically mean more views, more revenues, more... just more. I would only make clear the fact that I'd be profiting only on the videos within my own channel streaming my Bandcamp releases, since it's my own music. Anything else is pretty much a no-no due to a conflict of licenses, including all the music I've uploaded here on Newgrounds and Souncloud, music from other artists, and previews of my Unity products.

Who cares, right? Well, it's not like that. I think anyone whom I've shared music in my channel in recent times should feel at peace knowing someone is not taking advantage of one's hard work and instead, is trying his best to promote some real talent out there to an audience that can only broaden up.

I'm taking this as an opportunity to improve what I've been building from the ground up and share as much as I can to anyone even vaguely intrigued by this project's potential and content. There's so much to come and I'm thrilled by the multitude of possibilities ahead.

Till next time, stay tuned for more.

Hello there, I've got some nice news for you all.

I've been working on a new single that has actually been released not too long ago entitled "Seconds Gone By", available on Youtube and Bandcamp. But the real news is that my mini-album "Fade" has also been finally released (Youtube, Bandcamp), after sitting in development hell for quite some time since its first announcement here.

Metaware Games, an independent video game studio composed of myself and fellow programmer and designer Zack "The Great" Hopkins, has recently got a facelift and announced to create an interactive experience based on "Fade". You can follow and support its development here at Gamejolt.com, and what else can I say, enjoy the good vibes and dream on.

Alright folks, this is some pretty hot news I've got to share with you.

First of all, Harmony of Heroes. Right on the money, no more calls, Harmony of Heroes. This giant is finally released and it's available on its website at the low cost of nothing. That's right, 101 cover tracks from your childhood franchises, from 70 and counting musicians and 200 people involved for a grand total of 7 hours of music.

I'd like to thank the main team behind this huge effort, namely Darren Kerwin for having created and directed the whole project, and I'd also like to mention the fact that a good part of the contributors came from this very site, Newgrounds, including myself. So, I think the project deserves all the praise it can get, and it's been simply a fantastic experience, brilliant job to everyone.

I will upload my own three entries very shortly, and as I also announced on Facebook not too long ago, I made a few changes to this network due to optimization purposes. I will also release my mini-album "Fade" at some point during the next week, so stay tuned everyone, the show's not done yet.

These are my Harmony of Heroes entries:

#4 - Sad Underground (SMB Underground theme)
#77 - Nu Dead Cell (Yell Dead Cell / MGS2)
#86 - Club Wario Inc. (WarioWare, Inc. / Wario)

Enjoy the good vibes, see you around

Hey folks, it's been a while.

For those who have been calling copters looking for me, you can rest assured I'm feeling fine - if somewhat tired, but still kicking and incredibly busy with projects I've been putting aside, side-projects, job opportunities, education and the list could go on forever.

I'm sorry I couldn't get exactly in touch with everyone in my contact list but life's been pretty harsh here and the only thing I can do is to bust my low end for better survival chances and maybe eat something for lunch. Real life in a nutshell.

So without further ado, what news have I got for you? Well, first of all I announced not too long ago on Twitter my involvement in project Harmony of Heroes, which is a huge collaborative effort between plenty of musicians and Smash Bros. enthusiasts from all around the globe working together to cover some nice tunes from the franchise. Can't spoil, but I can only tell it will be absolutely worth your time when the project will be released around Fall time this year.

I've been tuning up my Youtube channel a bit by adding two new playlists, "Inspiring Music" which was featured on the previous post here and "Unity 3D Assets" featuring all my audio previews for my Unity retail products. Hopefully, it will help broadening my audience and bring some more liveliness to the channel.

Feel free to check all this stuff out and remember to share as much as you can. ;)

More stuff is also slowly in the works, so stay tuned and dream on.

Hey folks, long time no see.

I'm back with some news that may sound interesting to your ears, as it's the logical conclusion of an idea I've conceived a while back on this very site.

I have in fact just made a new playlist in my Youtube channel called "Inspiring Music", with the express purpose of sharing and publicizing music that in my opinion could need a voice and a chance to be heard (or heard again) throughout the internet. I'm especially talking about artists that aren't really that much known, if not at all and I'm not just referring to Newgrounds artists, and when I listen to their works I'm left with the same question: "Why doesn't this have more views?"

Featured artists in my channel would be fully credited, video descriptions would be full of links redirecting you to the artists' blogs or related channels, and most importantly, I'm not making money out of this experience. Something I can't do not even if I would because I live in Italy, and my country does not adhere to Youtube's partnership program. Plain and simple.

This is mainly about sharing music and I'm doing this because I consider myself passionate enough to understand the need for everyone's work to be shown and have a little bit of spotlight, enough for people around the world to listen to and spread the word.

Right now since I have just started this sub-project, as I call it, I could accept some requests if anyone here would like to have their tracks featured, just leave a comment below and I'll try to provide some feedback whenever possible. The reverse scenario would be that I would ask your permission to feature your track in my playlist, given links to your profiles and everything.

So, while waiting for the next Forgotten Dawn stuff to get done, I have already uploaded some tracks there. Let's make this channel a symbiotic network and a way for artists to get known.

Hello everybody, welcome to yet another update.

While still brainstorming quite a lot recently in various projects, I've been also partly involved in this little thing here which had... pretty interesting consequences.

Well, what struck me more in that whole carnage was when I mentioned the existence of my old, perpetually inactive account KKSlider60. Like I've suddenly awakened the hidden depths of a collective consciousness buried beneath the moniker of "Newgrounds" at the mere calling of a closed chapter in my musical endeavor.

So without further ado, I felt like dedicating this newspost to that starting point I left here on our pale blue dot in favor of this one year old experience, to clear any previous doubts about a relic of identity.

Yes, I'm the same guy. Thank you very much.

Reasons are explained in the old account, following thanksies and free popsicles for everyone.

I'd like to spend some very terse words about the licensing concerning any track released here on Newgrounds, not just on this Forgotten Dawn channel.

The license is called Creative Commons and there are many variations of the same pie that allow producers to better target and protect their material. Here on Newgrounds, the applied license is CC 3.0 (Non-Commercial, Attribution, Share-Alike) which means in layman's terms that you can use the song of choice for your project AS LONG as you give credit to the respective author, and your final product must be NON PROFITABLE. Furthermore, you're free to share, remix and redistribute the chosen song however you wish.

Worth of mention is the fact that you don't need the author's permission for using his/her song...

...but it would still be nice to know, 'cause you know, it's still free and it takes literally 2 minutes to write a PM and say "Hey, can I use this in my absolutely amazing non-profit grand piece of craftsmanship?", which I will reply "Why sure, jolly gentleman!" coupled with a resounding pat on your shoulder.

Moreover, it doesn't matter if you make a single penny or a billion USD by selling my CC 3.0-licensed song, as well as it doesn't matter who you are, if the President of the United States or #1 Nice Guy in the World. By principle, you shouldn't. Full stop.

My, what a long post. So what have we learned in all of this?

That it's nice to read something once in a while.

Hey there, folks. It's been a while since the last update, a full month no less.

Things have been relatively quiet here since the release of this project's very first soundtrack album, mainly because I have been attempting to write some new material spanning not only Newgrounds but a great part of FD's related channels (Unity comes into mind), and also because real life takes the daily priority as a kind reminder that we somehow need to keep breathing and survive.

Long story short, while I slowly crawl my way in the realm of "higher education" which currently takes quite a good portion of my time, I drown my thoughts into short term plans and the plethora of ideas that surface on my head during restless nights. Sometimes it works. Other times, well, it works differently, unexpectedly. Some other times it's a complete disaster. All this to say that I have been working quite hard to bring something else to the table, that new works are in progress and are slowly coming to life, that tiny bits of information are being added every day to what constitutes the near future of this project and its enstablished foundations.

I crave many ideas for different types of mediums as well, like video games or comics, therefore not strictly confined to music. I don't aspire for anything revolutionary if my sole revolution is to transmute my thoughts into worth-sharing experiences for my own enjoyment and for anyone willing to spend a drop of their own consciousness on Forgotten Dawn.

I think I rambled enough. Thank you for your time
